BIOGRAPHY

Adam Aptowitzer is a member of the Ontario Bar and has been practicing tax law since graduating from the University of Ottawa law school. Prior to studying law, Adam received Bachelors of Arts degrees in Political Science and Economics both from the University of Calgary. Adam completed his articles at a Toronto firm concentrating in tax dispute resolution and corporate law. Following his articles, Adam joined the same firm as an associate. In May of 2003, Adam opened his own practice focusing on corporate and tax law with a particular emphasis on charities and not-for-profit organizations.

Adam has successfully appeared on behalf of clients before CRA Appeals officers, the Tax Court of Canada and the Federal Court and has helped prepare submissions before the Federal Court of Appeal. He has also represented clients in internet domain name disputes (see here). In 2001, Adam appeared before several leading Ontario justices at the prestigious Davies Ward Phillips Vineberg corporate/securities competition, placing second in Canada.

Adam has been speaking and writing on the topic of charity law for several years. He has been published in several publications and is the editor of Charity Law Insights (previously known as the Aptlaw.com Newsletter). He is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and the County of Carleton Law Association. He also serves on the executive of the Ontario Bar Association's Charity and Not for Profit Law section.
